4 Ways Twitter is Like Craigslist

I know that Twitter is supposed to be a SOCIAL media platform.

However, the more I work with Twitter and notice what some top "Twits" are doing, the more similarity I see between Craigslist and Twitter.

1. TONS of people are using both.

All sorts of people are using Twitter, and they are seemingly coming from all walks of life.  People use it for fun, side businesses, and serious business.

There is a huge market for each, and they both are really good at attracting their markets.

2. Both are used for PLACING ADS.
They sell different types of things.  Craigslist usually sells tangible items.  Twitter is selling you to click the poster's link, which lead to a sale of a tangible product, info product, plead to enlist, or simply to read.

However, they both are trying to get you to answer their call to action.

3. Everyone will SEE your ad for 30 Seconds

Their posting structure is the ultimate "What have you done for me, lately?" view.  The FIRST thing you see is the LAST thing that was posted.

This is AWESOME...until another person posts something else.

Therefore, you have to constantly post to have any chance of being seen.  Stay on top of them, or they will topple YOU.

4. They are both highly effective.

On Craigslist, if you have a bargain, people will find you and call.  No problem there!

On Twitter, if you have something to offer, they make it easy for you to Reply, ReTweet, or simply Follow.

If you want attention, you can get it from either place.  They are both really effective "look at me" tools.

Bonus: How is Twitter different from Craiglist?

There is one HUGE difference between Twitter and Craigslist.

On Craigslist, whenever you post something, EVERYONE can see it.

On Twitter, whenever you post something, ONLY your Followers can see it.  Nobody else can, unless they share it with their Followers.  Therefore, it is important that you take time to find ways to develop a following--hopefully by earning it rather than "guilting" or tricking it.
